Good Spring
If you've been to New York and visited the city without being guided by Carlo Medori, legendary tourist guide of the Big Apple Corporation, you missed a very particular vision of the City.  Carlo is a special person, a time reporter that, almost accidentally, became a travel guide for Italians who want to know more about this most famous city in the United States. Carlo has no commercial structure; if you want to contact him, you can send fax or leave a message on his answering machine. He has no mobile phone. Just leave a message, and he will call you back.

I appreciate many things Carlo says and write and one of these is the "Good Spring", a letter that every year Carlo sends to all those who were with him in New York. Any time I hear the name spring, it catches my attention. May be because the spring, to me, is closely linked to the floriculture sector.  I like the idea to wish a "Happy Spring" and, in my own way, I want to wish happy spring to all my Colleagues in floriculture.

"Good Spring 2014"

A recent survey shows that the practice of gardening is among the most favorite hobbies in Europe.  Temporary gardens, small areas turned into green havens, splendid herbs grown indoors or on the balcony, Orchid or Succulents fanciers that drive long distances to visit an exhibition or to get advices from experts, and so on. Yes, the floricultural industry is experiencing a time of great wealth and prosperity. Then, how do we explain businesses closure, bankruptcy and gardeners in great difficulty? Why, even in the most important markets, plants and flowers are sold at prices that are below the production costs?

I do not believe there is a specific reason. Maybe is the feeling of achievement that lead us to the same error and mistakes instead to make the development a part of the journey.  I do not think there is a unique recovering recipe, what I can say, is that in our work we have to believe, believe beyond what our eyes can see, beyond what our mind can imagine! I other words, we need to put our heart over the obstacle! There is a huge potential in the floricultural sector and we should transform it to a great client shopping experience.

Our business is related to seasonality and doesn’t matter what we do and think, the spring remains the most important moment. For this, like Carlo Medori to his tourists, I wish the entire Horticultural industry a wonderful spring 2014.
